People on the phone
I draw people on the move in stations, at airports and moving around cities. I was struck when I reviewed my latest batch of drawings, to note that every drawing I’d done was of someone on the phone. I love to capture the variety of people that I see, but what I am capturing more and more, without realising it, are people in their own bubble, communicating to others in the ether, rather than somehow engaging with the world around them. Of course, it’s easier to draw people who are absorbed, so they don’t notice or have a chance to get self conscious about my attention, but I think seeing all these drawings together says something a bit sad about the world we now live in.
